Liberia Launches 24-Hour Cybersecurity Hackathon to Empower Youth and Strengthen Digital Defense

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in partnership with Starz University, is proud to announce the launch of a significant Cybersecurity Awareness Session and a 24-hour Capture The Flag (CTF) Hackathon. This dynamic initiative is designed to provide Liberian students with practical cybersecurity skills and real-world experience in defending the digital realm.
This event aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and hands-on practice by immersing participants in cybersecurity challenges that closely resemble the digital threats faced by governments and industries today. Through this initiative, students will gain experience in digital defense, ethical hacking, encryption, cyber forensics, and incident response, all while competing in an intense, non-stop 24-hour hacking marathon. The event encourages teamwork, fosters innovation, and promotes technical excellence.
The Ministry views this program as a bold and forward-thinking step toward advancing cybersecurity awareness, promoting digital literacy, and empowering Liberia’s youth to take leadership roles in the digital age. In collaboration with Starz University, one of the country’s leading technology institutions, the Ministry aims to create a platform that nurtures local talent, enhances the nation’s cyber resilience, and bolsters its overall digital ecosystem.
Participants in the hackathon will not only have the chance to test and improve their problem-solving skills but will also benefit from interactive sessions led by cybersecurity experts. These professionals will share valuable insights and global best practices in digital protection, risk management, and more. The program also offers opportunities for networking, mentorship, and recognition, with prizes being awarded to the top-performing teams and individuals.
According to the Ministry, the 24-hour CTF Hackathon highlights Liberia’s growing commitment to developing a secure and inclusive digital future, where youth are at the forefront of protecting national and organizational infrastructures. This event is a key component of the government’s broader digital strategy, which focuses on innovation, capacity building, and cybersecurity preparedness.
The hackathon will take place at the Starz University Campus, offering 24 hours of continuous cyber action. It promises to unite students, professionals, and enthusiasts in a collective mission to strengthen Liberia’s defenses against ever-evolving cyber threats.
By combining education, innovation, and competition, the Ministry and Starz University are setting the stage for the next generation of cybersecurity leaders, positioning Liberia as an active participant in Africa’s digital transformation.
